
Sara Evans had only one ambition in her life: to create and sing country songs. Evans stated to John Meroney, of American Enterprise: "God placed me in this place in order to be a singer." That's what I love and what I will do. Evans also wanted to be popular by going back to traditional country music, which was influenced by famous artists like Patsy Cline and Hank Snow. Her influences were also to some extent by George Jones, Tammy Wynette and Patty Loveless. Evans began her career in the early 1990s when newly-discovered country singers decided to switch towards pop songs. her debut album, True Lies, was one of the best examples. Although it received a lot of praise and an award from the Academy of Country Music in 1998 for being the top female vocalist, True Lies made little an impact. So, when she released her second release 1998's No Place That Far, Evans bowed to producers, whom persuaded her to extend her repertoire and finally earned the popular acceptance she'd sought since her childhood.
